CTL Partners With UNFI on Zero Emission and Electric Refrigerated Trailer
26 OCTOBER 2023, NEW JERSEY – Commercial Trailer Leasing, Inc. (CTL) announces a partnership with United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) to deploy a zero-emission, fully electric, multi-temperature refrigerated trailer in the U.S. The trailer will be cooled by Carrier Transicold’s Vector eCool™ powered by ConMet eMobility®.
The all-electric Vector eCool™ trailer refrigeration unit uses power generated by ConMet eMobility’s nMotion TR 160-45, an in-wheel electric motor application that repurposes energy captured during coasting and braking. The combination of clean, regenerated energy and Carrier’s powerful Vector unit will help UNFI keep customers’ deliveries cold, mile after mile, while creating
“We are very excited about this partnership with the UNFI team and look forward to supporting
their goals to achieve greater sustainability,” said Corey Eisen, Vice President of CTL. “We appreciate all the collaboration that went into assisting us with the engineering of the system and thank ConMet eMobility and Carrier Transicold for designing the innovative technology to operate this equipment at the highest level.”
“The introduction of these zero-emission refrigerated trailers is a significant step in achieving our own clean transportation goals,” said Nick Selders, VP of Transportation at UNFI. “They not only help UNFI achieve California’s ambitious goals on the adoption of zero-emission vehicles, they should also enable us to become more cost efficient and lower our delivery costs-per-mile.”
“ConMet is honored to work hand-in-hand with like-minded companies like CTL and UNFI to drive progress towards zero-emission commercial vehicles,” said Marc Trahand, Vice President and General Manager of ConMet eMobility. “We applaud CTL’s commitment to new technologies and their decision to deploy Carrier’s Vector eCool system powered by ConMet eMobility as they work toward their vision of sustainable transportation and safe, healthy communities.”
“Proving the real-world performance of clean, regenerated energy is an important step in the development of more sustainable transport refrigeration solutions,” said Alice Debiasio, Vice President and General Manager, Truck Trailer Americas and Digital Solutions, Carrier. “Congratulations to CTL and UNFI. We’re excited by the role our all-electric Vector® refrigerated
trailer system will play in their pilot program.”
The trailer is expected to be produced in Q1 2024 and operate throughout California and Oregon.
